MARINE SURVEY & CARGO INSPECTION SERVICES
Pre-Purchase Survey This is the most comprehensive type of inspection, and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or
used vessel. Condition and overall operation of the vessel should
be examined. This covers structural integrity of the hull, electrical systems, the propulsion system(s), the fuel system, other machinery, navigation equipment, miscellaneous on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics, and overall maintenance as well as an
out-of-water inspection and a sea trial.
Insurance Survey Also known as a Condition & Valuation Survey,
this inspection is performed so that the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. Insurance companies are interested in the structural integrity and safety for its
intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older
boats. They will also want to know the vessel's fair market value.
Appraisal Survey This inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of the vessel. This is normally needed for financing, tax purposes, estate settlements, donations and legal cases.
Damage Survey This type of survey is typically requested by the insurance company or owner of the vessel to determine the nature, cause and extent of damage after an accident that may include a collision, boat fire or storm damage. CHS Marine Survey will provide a written incident report, work for the insured and underwriter to recommend repairs, estimate and negotiate a fair repair cost and keep communication open between the repair yard, boat owner, third parties and insurance agent(s).
Bottom Inspection This type of survey is exclusive to the outer hull of the vessel. Once the boat has been hauled out, the wetted surface of the hull will be inspected for blisters, water intrusion, cracking or any other potential hull damage using FLIR thermal imaging and moisture reading technologies. Early detection of such issues can stop a catastrophic and expensive problem before it has begun.
Oil Samples CHS Marine Survey will collect a small volume of fluid from from the marine engine(s) for the purpose of oil analysis. Much like collecting forensic evidence at a crime scene, it is important to ensure that procedures are used to minimize disturbance of the sample during and after the sampling process. Oil samples are drawn into a small, clean bottle which is sealed and sent to Blackstone, an industry leading and independent laboratory, for analysis.
Compression Testing A compression check can tell a lot about the health of your outboard or inboard engine. The compression check can indicate that the piston rings are working properly and that the cylinders are in good condition. The test measures how much pressure is built up by the motion of the piston inside the cylinder, given in pounds per square inch (PSI) and is completed by a trained marine technician.
Engine & Generator Surveys Purchasing a new or used vessel?
